When my spouse and I visited, we decided to skip the maps and simply let the city lead us. We discovered that the true charm of Venice isn't just in its famous landmarks, but in the quiet residential "calli" (alleys) where laundry hangs between windows and locals share a glass of wine at a corner bacaro. 🍷

If you have an extra day, I highly recommend taking a boat to the island of Burano. Known for its lace-making and its brightly painted houses, it is a photographer's paradise. Legend has it the houses were painted in vibrant colors so fishermen could find their way home through the thick lagoon fog. 🏘️
We spent the afternoon wandering through the colorful streets, and my spouse picked up a beautiful handmade lace centerpiece a perfect, authentic souvenir from our time in the lagoon. 🧶
